Houston Sun’s Lonal Robinson, husband of former HABJ president, dies
HOUSTON—It is with sadness that the Houston Association of Black Journalists informs you of the passing of Lonal Robinson, the Publisher/General Manager of the Houston Sun. He was 62.
Robinson was the husband of former HABJ president Dorris Ellis, Publisher and Editor of the Sun, and father of Lonal X. Robinson, who is also on the staff at the Sun.
Robinson, an Ohio native, and Ellis co-founded the Sun in 1983, with a goal as she once told the Houston Chronicle “to provide news and information the community could use and trust.” The Sun has indeed done that. On numerous occasions the Sun has been named best newspaper in Texas by the Texas Publishers Association, and in 1995 it was named best newspaper by the Texas Community Newspapers Association.
HABJ offers its deepest condolences to Robinson’s family and friends, and asks members to keep them in your prayers and show love and support during this difficult time. (See funeral arrangements below.)
