Tyrone Willis - Secretary
Tyrone Willis currently works for the City of Houston Mayor's Office Communications team. Many around town may recognize this native Houstonian (and in his words “home-grown Texan”) from his long – running position as Society Editor for the Forward Times newspaper.
Willis is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, where his major was Political Science. During his high school years, he attended Westbury Christian School, where he gained interest in community involvement. As a senior, he was appointed to the City of Houston Mayor’s Youth Council, representing District B. This further sparked his interest in city planning and politics.
While in college, Willis was Historian of Richmond’s First Club and President of the National Black Law Student Association at VCU. His early political involvement included becoming a Fellow for Organizing for America Election Campaign for President Barack Obama (2008, 2012), in addition to being a community liaison for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
Willis currently serves on the Barbara Jordan Endeavors Board where he helps students with disabilities. During his downtime, Willis loves to attend sporting events and playing video games.
