Brandon Walker - Vice President, Broadcast

Everybody has a story, and if he had his say, Brandon Walker would tell each of them. Be it tales of quirk, conflict or harmony, Brandon considers his work a privilege: telling stories, daily. It’s a job for which Brandon has prepared ever since his eighth grade English teacher suggested he become a news reporter.

Brandon’s road to KPRC2 began in New Orleans, where he worked as an assignments editor at WGNO-TV while he was in high school. From New Orleans, Brandon’s next stop was Minnesota, where he attended Carleton College. He led the news department at student-run KRLX radio. After picking up a degree in history, Brandon moved to New York City to attend Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. While there, Brandon worked as a desk assistant at CBS News’ national desk. He field-produced live shots and content for the CBS Evening News, while learning from some of the best journalists the industry could offer. Brandon thought he’d remain at CBS News, climbing the ranks as a producer. However, fate would have other plans.

Grad school concluded with an opportunity to work as a TV reporter in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He’s also worked in Albany, New York, and Connecticut. In 2014, Brandon’s phone rang. It was KPRC-TV on the line wondering if he’d be interested in applying for a reporting position. That phone call led to one of the best opportunities Brandon has had.

He’s worked every shift at KPRC2: mornings, nights, weekends, days. He’s been honored with three regional Emmy Awards, an Edward R. Murrow award for writing, and several press club and AP honors.
